Sailing activities for all ages!
The R. Tucker Thompson is the perfect platform for educational fun. Whether it be a life changing 7-day sail training voyage or a short half day field trip, the Tucker has something for everyone. Whatever option you chose, it will a fantastic adventure you'll never forget!
Depending on the time available, age of studentsand the desired outcomes, chose from our range of options to suit your needs:
- Half day field trip, incorporating a two-hour sail
- Full day sail, involving one or two lesson plans (suitable for primary, intermediate or secondary)
- Mix and match with a two day trip with up to four lesson plans - overnight stay at local Marae or camp ground
- Three-day sailing adventure for 13-18 year olds or
- Seven- day sail training voyage for 13-18 year olds
Lesson Plans
Lesson plans are available for the following topics and can be incorporated into the day's activities. Generally, one lesson plan can be undertaken in a half day sail. Note for the 2 hour sail, there is insufficient time:
- Safety at Sea
- The science of Sailing
- Sailing and Seamanship
- Navigation
- Knots & Ropes
- Meteorology and tides
- Fishing and marine environment
- Polution & recycling (3 and 7 day voyages only)
- Food & nutrition ( 7 day voyages only)
