Where to stay
It is recommended that you start your day out on the trip from Northland, as it is quite an early start to drive from Auckland in the morning. There are plenty of wonderful places to stay and in the Bay of Islands there are plenty of options to suit all prices and tastes, from exclusive lodges, motels and campgrounds to self catering.
Russell where the ship departs from is situated on a small peninsula with an island like, historic quality. Opua is a small commercial port, whereas Paihia is a bustling and busy town with a waterfront location. Kerikeri, located up the Kerikeri inlet is located amongst fertile farming soile with citrus orchards and fresh fruits. Wherever you stay, there will be a warm welcome.
