The ship itself supplies the challenge

"What a wonderful way to see such an historical part of NZ. To navigate by sextant and stars and to learn about the interaction of wind and atmospheric pressure makes you realise how Mother Nature ultimately determined the form of sailing and how early mariners had adapted so well. Thank you .... for a wonderful weekend"

The R. Tucker Thompson has carried thousands of adventurers in her sailing career and without exception each person has been awakened to a new awareness of themselves by the challenge of having to work together to sail the ship – and to explore their ability to rise to that challenge.

You too can take that challenge! The chance to sail a tall ship is not available to everyone, but it is certainly not beyond reach. The philosophy of the R.Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust is to encourage everyone to take the opportunity to discover more about themselves, each other and the environment. Whether it be a day sail in the Bay of Islands, a longer voyage such as a coastal passage, a history trip, or even an ocean crossing, the experience will be life changing.
