| There are many excellent tours you could go out on but by far the best was a day's sail around the Bay of Islands aboard the 'Schooner' the 'R. Tucker Thompson'. | |

| Thank you to Captain Sam, Steve, Manton and the R. Tucker Thompson for the best day we've ever had. Not only did we get to board the tall ship we'd spotted from the beach, but we got to hoist sails, set lines, climb the rigging, haul up the anchor, and generally act like small children at a pirate-themed water park. | |
| Should we hop on a tour bus and head north to Cape Reinga or take a sail on the R. Tucker-Thompson tall ship throughout the Bay of Islands? We chose to sail the open seas! Definitely the better choice. How often can do you get the chance to act like a pirate? What a neat day. | |
| A girl at the hostel gave me the heads up to the R. Tucker Thompson which was a breath of fresh air away from all the other bright glowing tour cruises around here. This ship does day tours in the summer for tourists to raise money for the trips they take students on in the winter. Week long trips with kids ages 13-18, often from troubled homes, so the tourist season supports this effort. Just where I want to spend my money. | |
| We spent the day on the tall ship, R Tucker Thompson, sailing round the Bay of Islands where there are about 144 island. This was all very exciting, and because it was an 'interactive' trip you got to do things like pull up the sails, wind up the ropes in anti-clockwise circles and take the helm (which is the steering wheel)! | |
| Arriving in a secluded bay around noon, the anchor was dropped and a group of passengers took the dinghy to the beach. The boys jumped into the ocean via a rope swing and the girls laid back on deck and drank wine. It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday. | |
| There were lot of ships to choose from but I ended up going with style and chose the only Tallship they had here, R Tucker Thompson . Day was fantastic, near perfect weather. | |
| So the next day saw us eagerly climbing aboard an impressive 'tall ship', the R Tucker Thompson, for a fabulous day sailing around some of the islands, |
